In the Tarot, The Suit of Wands represents the element of Fire. Fire is hot, and burns. It is also the representation of passion, desire and that kind of energy that burns as it moves upwards. The Suit of Wands can therefore represent those areas in life where such Fire energy plays a very prominent part – i.e. – the areas of work, and in the aspects where one is relating to other people.
Today, let us look at the Suit of Wands, and how we can see the journey of these different energies manifest themselves in our lives on a day-to-day basis.
This picture depicts the way I see the way the energy moving through the Suit of Wands. Lets have a closer look.
The Cycle Begins…
The cycle of this journey begins with the Ace, where we see the first burst of this fire energy manifesting itself with ideas, concepts and passion. If we look at the Ace, we see a hand emerging from a cloud holding a wand – and that wand is alive and has green leaves! These ideas have just come into being and are certainly a force to reckon with.
Moving Along…
The Two, Three and Four of Wands show us how that initial burst of fire energy – the new idea that took birth in the Ace – has now started to manifest itself.
In the Two of Wands, the idea takes a hold over the person, who then decides to really take the steps that are required to bring that idea into reality. However, without his innate passion and zeal for the concept, it would never really take full form into reality.
In the Three of Wands, we see that he has moved forward with the idea and has thrown it into the Universe, so to speak. He watches as the ships come into the harbor, and waits to hear if that idea and passion will really manifest into something tangible.
In the Four of Wands, we see a celebration. The idea was well received, and many others have joined the process – all of them bringing with them their enthusiasm for the idea as well.
Changes…
As the manifestation of this passionate idea into something tangible takes place, many others join in this journey and bring their energy into the mix. Naturally, this is bound to bring about a lot of changes into the process of manifestation.
In the Five of Wands we see how everyone brings in their unique perspective and approach to the project – and this may even result in confusion. Each approach may have its merits, and therefore it is essential to take in what is good from each approach, and let go of those things which will only hamper the process.
In the Six of Wands we see that a leader has emerged – he is the one who is able to see the unifying factors within these different ideas and harmoniously manage to bring all those ideas together. This leader is able to guide the process of manifestation in a successful manner.
Towards The End…
At this stage things start to move along. The original concept traverses the ‘ideas’ phase, crosses the ‘planning’ phase and reaches the ‘actual doing’ phase of the project.
In the Seven of Wands we see how he is coping (or trying to cope with) the all the things around him – he is managing all the different wands and ideas coming towards him with just one single wand. Here is where the original idea, the first concept, is tested against others. Here is where the original idea’s integrity and passion is preserved.
In the Eight of Wands, all the energies manage to flow harmoniously and actually transformation – a positive burst of creative energies – begins to generate the manifestation process into reality.
But with the Nine of Wands, the heat of the Fire is being felt. He is pressurized to protect himself – he is hurt and doesn’t want to get more hurt. While bringing the ideas to fruit, he is now facing the heat of exhaustion and is able to somehow guard himself from being burnt by it.
Changes, Again…
After one has moved through all the processes of thoughts, ideas, planning and manifestation, it is essential to move on to the next phase – the next stage of change.
Yet, in the Ten of Wands, we see that perhaps there are now more things to take care of. Now he has more ideas and concepts – but his burden is heavy. He still is moving forward no doubt, but he carries a heavy load. This card shows us that he is now moving from this stage to the next with an actual cache of more ideas – which may even be a heavy load to lift.
The Journey Continues
No matter how heavy the load, or how confusing the ideas, the journey of the Suit of Wands is full of passion, zeal and fire. And, fire can make you sweat with its heat, and it can warm you against the cold.
This suit, while giving us a picture of this energy in its cyclical form, also gives us a glimpse into the positive and negative aspects of the element of Fire.
Your Turn
Have you gone through such a journey with your passions and ideas? Was it similar to the journey depicted by the Suit of Wands? How do you relate to the different aspects of this journey? Lets talk about it in the comments section below.
- The Suit of Wands
- The Suit of Swords
- The Suit of Pentacles
- The Suit of Cups
Female competition saddens me and I find the 5 of wands coming up a lot when there are groups of people who are vying with one another for position. I want to learn how to shift that energy towards one of cooperation and this society really doesn’t help! Women are often pitted against one another, take jabs at one another out of spite, jealousy, etc. Do you know of any cards that symbolize these concepts?
Hmm… I know what you mean… I’ve experienced this as well… It becomes really hard to handle such situations, especially if one doesn’t want to become like them.
Other cards that symbolize concepts similar to these: The 5 of Swords card comes to mind right away. It is full of arguments, confrontation, and discord. The 3 of Swords too – heartbreak, betrayal. 7 of Swords – cheating, lying. These are a couple of cards that popped into my head.
Did you think of any other cards?
